Food Stamps

Applications are accepted at all DFCS County Offices. There is a DFCS office in each county. You may call 1-888-295-1769 or 404-651-6316 for the nearest DFCS location

EBT cards from LA, MS, AL may be used here in GA

If an evacuee from Louisiana had an active case andEBT card last month,all FS benefits were posted on 9/1/05.

On 9/15, a FS Disaster supplement will be issued also.

At 4 PM (CST) 9-2-05,Louisianawill transfer callsto their Baton Rouge office.
Staff will handle EBT card replacement and clients reporting changes.

Displaced Foster Families

Foster families wanting to report their location may call 1-888295-1769.
The procedures for foster families are as follows:
Obtain names of all adults, names, dob, sex, of children, current address and address in LA, MS or AL. We will then report the information to the appropriate state office and to the GA county office they are currently residing in. Note: The phones shut down automatically at 5:30 p.m., but if they leave a message over the weekend, we will then pull that info on Mondaymorningmaking any foster family reports a priority.

Prescription Needs

Wal-Mart - Indicate you are a Katrina victim and they will provide a refill at no cost. You must have a prescription, or bottle with the appropriate information.

CVS or Walgreen’s will access your information if your prescription was previously filled in one of their stores. You will be charged for a refill.

Georgia Partnership for Caring Foundation will also be providing medications to those in need. DFCS Right from the Start Medicaid staff will be on hand at local shelters to assist with the application process.

To get unemployment for people that were working or receiving unemployment during Hurricane Katrina that are now residing in GA call the following numbers:

If you lived in Louisiana you must dial 404 656 6000 press 1, enter the zip code of where you are residing now in GA

If you lived in Mississippi you must dial 1 877 709 8185 if no luck with that number try the LA residents number again

Need to know SSN, and ID if they have it. And Name of employer but if they don't have all of that they should explain to them.
