ADULT PROTECTIVE SERVICES is now under the office of AGING
 

The purpose of the Adult Protective Services Program is to protect disabled adults (18 years and older) and elder persons (65 and older) from abuse, neglect and exploitation.

Adult Protective Services can be provided to adults and the elderly who fit the following criteria:

  • They are unable to protect their own interests
  • They may be harmed or threatened with harm through action or inaction by another.
  • They, through their own actions due to ignorance, incompetence or poor health, are physically or mentally injured.

Adult Protective Services may range from information and referrals to court ordered guardianship. Adult Protective Services are intended to:

  • Prevent deterioration and crises.
  • Protect rights and resources of adults unable by reason of physical or mental disability to protect themselves.
  • Arrange a protected environment in which the risks of threatened harm or danger are reduced or removed.
  • Enable adults to manage their own affairs.
