PROGRAMS DESIGNED TO INSURE SAFETY AND PROTECTION

 

CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES (CPS) - Provides services for children who are at risk of or have suffered from abuse, neglect, abandonment, or exploitation. For FY 2001, Clayton County received 2,161 CPS Referrals resulting in 1,411 investigations with over 500 cases of abuse/neglect confirmed.

ADULT PROTECTIVE SERVICES (APS) - Provides services to adults who are at risk of abuse, exploitation or neglect, including self-neglect. For FY 2001, Clayton County received 162 APS referrals resulting in 83 cases of abuse/neglect confirmed.

CHILD PLACEMENT SERVICES - Provides services for children who cannot be cared for in their own homes due to abuse or neglect.

  • FOSTER CARE - Child Placement Services are needed when children cannot be cared for in their own homes due to abuse or neglect. DFCS recruits foster parents and provides 30 hours of pre-service training, known as Model Approach to Partnerships in Parenting (MAPP).
  • Clayton County was selected as a pilot county for a new initiative entitled "First Placement, Best Placement." This initiative provides for the best possible placement for the child in an effort to establish a lasting placement. Due to the success of this program, it has now been extended statewide.
  • ADOPTIONS - Adoption service include recruiting and studying permanent adoptive homes for children in the custody of DFCS.
