PROGRAMS DESIGNED TO PROMOTE OF SELF-SUFFICIENCY

• TEMPORARY ASSISTANCE FOR NEEDY FAMILIES (TANF) - A state program designed to provide temporary financial assistance to families with dependent children. It is tied to meeting work requirements and is time limited. In Clayton County, for FY 2006, 1,471 households were helped.
• EMPLOYMENT SERVICES - A program designed to assist TANF applicants and recipients become job ready and self-sufficient by providing services tailored to the individual.
• CHILDCARE - A program that provides families receiving TANF, Protective Services or who have low income with assistance in meeting childcare expenses. In Clayton County, for FY 2006, there were over 7,400 children in subsidized childcare.
